Student Activity

Students at McCrossan Boys Ranch have had the ability to go on incentive trips for good behavior reports during the month.   These trips are done each and every month and the activities vary from things like:  arcade trips, bowling, fishing and museums.  The school not only goes on monthly trips but it brings in volunteer speakers to come and share life experiences with the students.  People of all professions have taken the time to come out and talk with the boys throughout the year and it is greatly appreciated and enjoyed.

Gardening Class

The McCrossan Boys Ranch Gardening Class works hard in the late spring, all summer, and early fall.  Over 50 students are involved in the garden at various times of the year.  Students plant, harvest, water, and weed the garden.  With help from donors and teachers, the students are also able to successfully sell large amounts of produce. If you are interested in purchasing produce from the garden class please contact McCrossan Boys Ranch. A price list is included below. The garden is a wonderful education opportunity for the boys at McCrossan Boys Ranch. The boys also enjoy learning to cook with the foods they produce.

A message from last years garden class student president:

Last years garden was successful.  My favorite part of the gardening class was harvesting.  Our cook cooked us vegetables that we picked from the Garden.  There was a lot of people that came and bought vegetables, it was cool!   On Halloween we carved pumpkins from the garden, my pumpkin weighed 28 lbs.  I would like to thank everyone that bought stuff from the garden last year.

Building & Trades Class

The focus of the Building Trades program is to promote the benefits of working in the building trades industry. Students are trained in the use of hand and power tools. They are taught the fundamentals of carpentry and other trades in the classroom. The shop on campus provides them an opportunity to put their skills and ideas to work in a hands-on environment. The program also offers them the opportunity to participate in off-ranch community service projects as seen in some of these pictures. The boys have built Habitat Homes and helped local families in need by building ramps and doing other in-home projects. The Building Trades class has completed a variety of garden/yard projects this winter. We are offering these items for sale.

As a new exciting part of the Building & Trades Class, a new C-tech program is now offered. The class teaches the boys telecommunications, copper and fiber optic cabling skills.

Recently, the Ranch expanded and re-designed its shop room providing more hands on opportunities for the boys and state of the art equipment used in today's construction field.

Building and trades class builds skills that students can use in the real world.
