Steve has been Associate Director for McCrossan since 2008. He has been working with at-risk youth for 23 years in private, residential settings. During his time working with boys and girls, he has held a variety of positions including: Youth Counselor, House Parent, Group Leader, Team Leader, Residential Coordinator, Program Director, Dean of Students, Assistant Facility Administrator, and Associate Director. Steve has two Bachelors degrees (Business Administration and Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies) as well as a Master of Science in Administration (Human Resources emphasis). Steve lives at the Ranch with his wife, Becky, and his dog, Henry. He is an avid outdoorsman, loves to hunt, fish, ride bike, run and read in his spare time. Steve has also competed in many triathlons and marathons!
Senior Unit Manager
Emily has been a Unit Manager at the Ranch since she was hired in 2008. She was a non-traditional college student and was finishing up her four-year degree in Criminal Justice in 2006 when she was offered an internship with the Federal Probation Office here in Sioux Falls. That internship turned into a one-year temporary position with them which helped her complete the required experience to work under the Federal contract McCrossan had with the Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Emily has also completed her Master’s Degree in Administrative Studies with the University of South Dakota – GO YOTES!! When not working at the Ranch, Emily enjoys spending time with her two, beautiful daughters and friends.
Program Director/PREA Coordinator
Patty started working at McCrossan Boys Ranch in 1996 as a childcare staff. After two years, she became a Unit Manager and then, over the years, became a Senior Unit Manager with anywhere from 24 – 35 kids on her caseload. In 1998, Patty became our de-escalation/restraint trainer with the Mandt System with the philosophy of Treating People with Dignity and Respect. In 2012, Patty became the Program and Admissions Manager. In 2013, she also became the PREA Coordinator to ensure the safety of all individuals served at the Ranch and in 2019 she was promoted to Program Director. Patty has a degree in Sociology from Southwest State University. In her free time, Patty enjoys spending time with her friends and family, playing volleyball year round, traveling, bike riding and working out (some days).

ILPP Case Manager
Kristen has been employed at McCrossan Boys Ranch since 2012. She has worked as a Youth Counselor, an On Duty Supervisor/Group Leader, and now works as a Case Manager in the Independent Living Program. Kristen attended school at the University of Sioux Falls and has a degree in Social Work. In her spare time, Kristen enjoys spending time with her husband, their dogs and watching football! Go Hawkeyes!!
McCrossan Boys Ranch of Sioux Falls is blessed to have an exceptional team of employees who make McCrossan and the services we offer possible. Our McCrossan family is made up of about 70 people, all contributing to provide "New Hope For A Better Life" for each and every one of our boys.
Darla has been at McCrossan since 1980! She started at McCrossan Boys Ranch as the bookkeeper and was promoted to business manager after six years. Darla has a general Accounting degree from Nettleton Business College, formerly in Sioux Falls. During her time at McCrossan, Darla has seen many changes but says one thing remains the same, “Boys still need help and the staff that work here are some of the most caring and loving people I have ever met.” When not working, she loves to spend time with her three grandchildren. Darla also enjoys reading, hanging out at the lake and enjoying the company of family and friends.
Sandi has been with McCrossan since 2008. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, with a concentration in Human Services. After working at the Boys and Girls home in Sioux City, Iowa, Sandi came to McCrossan and took a position as a Youth Counselor. She worked in Sioux Cottage for 4 years before becoming a supervisor, and then securing a Unit Manager’s position in 2012. In addition to being a Unit Manager, Sandi enjoys taking senior pictures for our graduates at McCrossan. She tries to ensure they have the same graduation experience as any other graduating senior. Photography happens to be Sandi’s favorite hobby!
Director of ILPP
Ryan has been with the Ranch since 2011. He started out working in our Group Care programming, often filling the On-Duty Supervisor role then eventually switched over to our Independent Living Preparation Program. In 2014 he became an ILPP Case Manager. In 2015 he took over the role of ILPP Director, which is where he works to this day. Ryan earned a double major from Minnesota State University Moorhead in Criminal Justice and Sociology in 2005. He worked for West Central Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Moorhead during college. Ryan, unfortunately is cursed as a Colts and Yankees fan but enjoys hunting, fishing and karaoke!
Director of Development
Christy has been with McCrossan Boys Ranch since 2002. Most of those years she has been overseeing the Ranch’s fundraising and marketing efforts. Christy graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications. She received her CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) credentials in 2009, one of only a few in the state of South Dakota to hold this honor. Christy is active in the South Dakota Association of Fundraising Professionals as well as the Kiwanis Club of Sioux Falls, Sales and Marketing Executives of Sioux Falls, NAMI Sioux Falls and the West Central Education Foundation. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids. She also loves camping, boating, scrapbooking, photography and traveling.
Independent Living Preparation Program
Brian has been the Executive Director at McCrossan Boys Ranch since 1998. He has over 38 years of experience in the Child and Youth Care field. Brian has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Corrections and Sociology from Mankato State University, as well as a Master of Science Degree in Child and Youth Care Administration from Nova Southeastern University. He also holds a Certificate of Excellence in Non-Profit Leadership and Management. In his free time, Brian enjoys golfing, fishing and competes in Masters Track and Field.
Director of Admissions and Equine Services
Troy has been employed at McCrossan since 1990 when he started as a child care counselor. In 1993 he started our Independent Living Program, then moved into a Unit Manager position by 1998. At times, Troy went back and forth as a Unit Manager and the Independent Living Coordinator until 2008 when he started doing Admissions and Marketing. In 2008 he also became certified in equine therapy and took over the barn which included the riding and draft horse programming. Troy has been teaching our children how to ride and drive the draft horses ever since! Currently Troy spends his time doing admissions, which includes interviewing and making sure the kids we serve our appropriate for our programing. The rest of his time is spent teaching kids how to ride, drive and take care of animals.
